Here are a few tips to prepare for class XII board exams

Prepare from NCERT Textbooks(primarily)

A lot of people think that board questions will be hard and hence they use refreshers as their primary focus. But remember that board asks conceptual questions from NCERT and 75% questions will be of NCERT level. Hence keep your primary focus on NCERT textbooks.

Study in groups

Group studying is a great way of improving learning. Clear doubts amongst yourselves if possible. Always confirm your answer with teachers. This improves concepts and learning abilities.

Self study

This is a very important step in preparing for any kind of exam. Don’t rely too much on your coaching or tutors to teach you everything. You know yourself better than your teachers and the areas you are weak in. Study accordingly. At least 36 hours of self study a week is a must.

Time management

A crucial step in preparation for anything in life. Devise a suitable timetable giving optimum time for every subject/topic and study accordingly. Remember to take breaks in between so you stay active and refreshed. Studying for long hours without breaks hinders learning and there is no output. People say that studying for long hours is good but it is totally a myth. If you study with complete focus for 3 hours, you can do better than someone studying without focus for 6 hours.

Make notes

Making notes is an easy way of revising topics quickly. Make brief notes that describe the topic completely so that in exam time you don’t have to read whole chapters.

Solve sample papers

Solve as many sample papers as you can to get an idea of the way board asks questions. You can complete the theory on weekdays and practice sample papers on weekends.

Stay relaxed and focused

Board exams are just like you mid-term exams, just in a different environment. So it is important that you stay calm and focused and don’t be paranoid.

Get good sleep

This is important as you need to give rest to your brain. Get good sleep of up to 6 hours to stay fresh.

Don’t mug up facts

It is important to understand concepts and not just memorise them. After you complete concepts on a page, question yourself about the concepts learnt on that particular page. For learning important formulae, write them yourself on a paper and revise daily.

Some tips while writing the exam

1) Understand what is asked in question and answer accordingly. Most students write the answer related to the question but not the exact answer.

2) Do not use short form of words.

3) Don’t write long answers just to fill the sheet. Write precise answers.

4) Explain your answer through diagrams or flow charts if possible.

5) Although there is no time to write good handwriting but write clear words so that the examiners don’t get frustrated while correcting your answer sheet. They may/may not give marks if they don’t understand what you’ve written.

6) Carry all essential supplies  so you don’t have to borrow during exam. This wastes your time and invigilator may assume this as cheating.

Following these steps, you can score more than 90% easily in your Board Exams.
Best of luck!
